Benefits of Attending a Small College

  • Students who attend a small college receive excellent 1-on-1 attention from professors. In fact, the average class size at Roanoke is only 18 students.
  • 95% of Roanoke's tenure-track professors have the highest degrees in their fields of expertise.

Lutheran Scholarships at a Small Private College

  • There are over 100 clubs and organizations to participate in at Roanoke College.
  • Intensive Learning Term—Roanoke College students can spend three weeks in May to concentrate on a focused topic such as “Tropical Marine Biology” or “Film as a Social Icon.” Programs such as these usually aren't available at larger institutions.
  • Phi Beta Kappa honor society:  Roanoke is one of only 270 out of more than 3,500 colleges and universities in the country who have the academic credentials to qualify for a chapter of this distinctive organization.
  • 95% of job-seeking Roanoke College seniors receive job offers within six months of graduation.

Financial Assistance, Including Lutheran Scholarships

  • The College actively participates in a wide range of federal and state student aid programs. We also make generous commitments each year from College resources to help students. Roanoke College administers more than $19 million in financial aid annually. We work closely with each family to match their needs with federal, state, private and College resources. Qualified students can receive a financial aid award which includes assistance ranging from scholarships and grants to loans and jobs. At least 85% of our enrolled students received aid from these types of programs in 2004/2005.
  • In addition to regular scholarships, grants and financial assistance, Roanoke College also has Lutheran scholarships worth an additional $1,000 per year.
  • The estimate from the financial aid calculator will not include scholarships available from special programs such as Lutheran scholarships; however, assistance from these programs may increase your award.
