In September 2004, Roanoke College’s 10th president, Dr. Sabine O’Hara, supported by the Board of Trustees, launched a strategic planning process that would lead the college into the future. Roanoke has been blessed by a planning tradition, and it owes much of its success to the strong influence of sound planning and an ongoing commitment to action.

The new strategic plan was developed with the same principles in mind. The process has been characterized by broad-based involvement of all segments of the Roanoke College community, with extensive discussion, debate, and reflection on the part of students, faculty, staff, trustees, and alumni. The resulting plan represents the strength of a college community with institutional leadership and individual voices uniting in a clear direction for the future of Roanoke College. The Board of Trustees adopeted the plan on October 27, 2005 with a unanimous vote.

Roanoke College enjoys a strong standing. Our students are talented young men and women, the quality and dedication of our faculty and staff are truly outstanding, our board of trustees is deeply committed to the college and its success, our alumni and friends of the college have an unusual degree of loyalty and passion for Roanoke, and we are blessed with a beautiful historic campus and a stunning environment between the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nurtured by a legacy of strength and energized by an ongoing commitment, the College is well equipped to move forward into an era of prominence and distinction. Roanoke’s Board of Trustees stands united with the college’s leadership and community to ensure that the progress articulated in the 2015 Plan will distinguish Roanoke as one of this nation's leading liberal arts colleges.
