September 2004 Summer Research talks!
Summer 2004 The Chemistry Department sponsored a wide variety of summer research experiences for our students. Amandaa Bostick and Mike Cashin pursued research projects supported by RC Summer Scholar Fellowships. Amy Neuhs, Uyen Le, Garrett Cosenza, Michele Dellis, and Will Wolanski were supported by the Bondurant Research Fund. Adria Mannon did doing an internship at the Western Regional Laboratory Division of Forensic Science in Roanoke, and Will Lancaster worked part-time on a project he will continue in Fall 04.

Summer 2004: Nathan Alexander (Biochem major '03) reports that he is starting his second year of medical school. He has participated in a research project that has already resulted in a publication!

Dr. Charles Fisher and Southern Regional Lab Honored
May 2004: On May 14, the American Chemical Society designated the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Southern Regional Research Center (SRRC) as a National Historical Chemical Landmark. Dr. Charles "Hap" Fisher, Roanoke Class of 1928 and current RC Adjunct Research Professor, was director of the SRRC for many years. SRRC was specifically honored for work done under Dr. Fisher's supervision to chemically modify cotton, producing wrinkle-resistant and flame retardant cotton.
