May Term
The College provides a wide array of Intensive Learning opportunities, including travel courses as well as on-campus courses. The majority of these courses are offered in May, during a three-week term, although some travel courses may run a little over or a little under the three-week period.
Examples of Past Intensive Learning Courses:
Roman Philosophy
This course studies the development of philosophy within both the Republic and Empire phases of Roman history. This time period saw the development of Plato's Academic philosophy, the rise of Stoicism, Epicureanism, Skepticism, and Christianity. As such it provides a unique vantage point to ask questions concerning the good life and good government. Through lecture, travel, and testing students will become familiar with the major themes of each of these movements. In May 2005, the course was offered on location in Rome, Italy. (Instructor: B. Adkins)
Religion in the Middle East
Introduction to the major monotheistic religions by exploring their historical origins in Israel. Explorations in Galilee, Jerusalem, and other parts of the land, plus meetings with representatives of all three religions. (Instructor: G. McDermott)
