A Student's First Year
at Roanoke College
We are pleased to tell you about the Co-Curricular Learning and Service (CCLS) program here at Roanoke College. Its primary purpose is to assist new students in connecting to the learning opportunities at the College, both inside and outside of the classroom.
A key individual in making these learning connections is the academic advisor. The advisor serves as the primary instructor of CCLS 101 and 102. These mini-courses involve small group sessions with other students, as well as individual sessions with the academic advisor.
Here at the College we have a love of learning-whether such learning takes place in the classroom, at the theater, or on the soccer field. We live and grow by our intellectual inquisitiveness, creativity, and search for understanding of our world.
We also believe in service to others. We see community service as a way of giving back, while gaining an understanding of others. We consider it a basic component of responsible citizenship and a necessary quality for capable leadership.
In summary, a love of learning and a commitment to service are why we have the CCLS program. We invite you to become a part of it.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Adrienne G. Bloss
Professor and Assistant Dean for Curricular and Faculty Development
Dr. William Tenbrunsel
Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs
