The following excerpts from the Roanoke College Student Handbook apply to aspects of on-campus living.

Alcoholic Beverage Policy
The administration at Roanoke College recognizes that the consumption of alcohol is a reality in our society. The administration is also concerned that the abuse of alcohol contributes to many societal and campus problems. Roanoke College does not encourage the use of alcoholic beverages by students, nor does it condone the violation of applicable laws or college policies. The College respects the right of students of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages so long as they drink responsibly and adhere to applicable laws and college policies. Individuals who choose to consume alcoholic beverages, regardless of their age, are responsible for their behavior.

If you are 21 years of age you may consume beer or other alcoholic beverages in the privacy of your residence hall room (with the exception of freshman residence halls in which case all alcoholic beverages are prohibited). You may also purchase beer in the Cavern.

At student-sponsored events or parties, beer is the only alcoholic beverage permitted.
