Health Insurance The College offers three alternatives under the group health insurance plan. If beginning employment on the first business day of the month, you are eligible for coverage immediately. If beginning your employment after the first business day of the month, you are eligible on the first of the following month. The college and the employee share the cost of the premiums. Dependent coverage is available. For Healthkeepers 25 HMO and KeyCare 25 PPO, the employee’s share of the premium approximates 30% and the college’s share approximates 70%. For KeyCare 15 PPO, the employee’s share of the premium approximates 36% and the college’s share approximates 64%. This cost sharing arrangement will be in effect through March 31, 2009. Employee’s portion of the premium is paid via payroll deduction and may be tax-sheltered through the “Premium Conversion” program. The College may obtain competitive bids on health insurance when renewing coverage effective 4/1/09. Therefore, the provider may change to another carrier or third party administrator. Dependent coverage and a high option are available with the employee paying the additional premium. Ameritas Dental (800)487-5553 Links: Ameritas Group Dental Claim Form Flexible Spending Accounts By establishing flexible spending accounts, an employee may set aside pre-tax income to later be reimbursed for medical expenses not covered by the group health and dental plans. Employees can also establish an account for dependent care (daycare) expenses. The coverage is equal to an employee's annual salary, to a maximum of $100,000 and includes an ADD feature. Eligibility is established in the same manner as for health insurance. Disability Insurance An employee is eligible for long-term disability insurance after one year of service. The disability plan is designed to protect you and your family from financial hardship caused by loss of income, and the premium is paid by the college.
Retirement Plan Employees are enrolled in the college's retirement plan on THE FIRST OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING EMPLOYMENT IN A REGULAR POSITION. Participation is mandatory. Five percent of an employee's monthly salary is withheld and deposited, along with a college contribution of 9.5%. The plan is through Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association - College Retirement Equities Fund. Tuition Remission After one year of service, employees, their spouses and dependent children are eligible for tuition remission at Roanoke College.
