Important Dates The Fall orientation program for international students lasts for three days prior to the opening of school for all new students. International students arrive one day prior to the beginning of orientation. Orientation is usually during the second to last week of August, from Wednesday until Saturday morning. Activities Orientation begins with an introduction and meeting the president and dean of the college. Students meet with college officers in Residence Life, Student Affairs, Academic Services, Health, Fintel Library, and the business and registrar's offices. Each day there are intensive seminars on dealing with culture shock, American higher education and the nuances of American culture. New students receive their identity card and all meals and housing are included at no cost to the student during the orientation period. Current international students and American students with study abroad experience serve as student mentors. Hiking and field trips in the Roanoke area are included along with a pool party. Registration and Check-In This is a mandatory aspect of orientation for all new students, which usually occurs on the Saturday afternoon following the international student orientation. Students must proceed with their ID cards to the registration and business office kiosk in the Colket Center to enroll formally in their chosen courses of study. International students will then join other incoming students for new student orientation. Printer-friendly version E-mail this page
