About the Department The Psychology Department supports the liberal arts mission of Roanoke College and provides a program which is consistent with the Statement of Purpose of the College. - To contribute to the liberal education of students through courses which present the psychological perspective on the study of behavior and experience, and which reflect the current state of knowledge about the discipline.
- To provide a major in psychology which will give graduates a broad base from which to seek employment or from which to enter postgraduate study.
- To prepare those students for graduate study who are interested and capable of pursuing advanced degrees in psychology .
The department is eclectic in its presentation of psychology as a whole, and the interests and specialties of its faculty reflect the diversity found in this discipline. It is the mission of the Department of Psychology to provide a program which contributes to the liberal education of students and which provides those students who major in Psychology with a broad base from which to seek employment and from which to enter graduate school. We seek to present the psychological perspective on the empirical study of behavior and cognition and to reflect in our teaching and research both the unity and diversity found in the science and profession of Psychology today.
