Donald M. Sutton
Sutton has been described as a leader, a guide, a friend and a mentor to generations of students at Roanoke College. His most cherished title?
HONORARY MAROON
…bestowed upon him by the Roanoke Alumni Association at his retirement in 1983 celebrating 27 years of service to the College. Not only did Sutton hold the offices of Dean of Men and Director of Student Financial Aid, he also made great strides for the College in the Office of Development and in Alumni Affairs.
His awareness of the ongoing need to provide access for all to a Roanoke education prompted his recent generous gift of a charitable annuity. Funds from this endowment will provide financial aid for students and enrich the quality of their Roanoke experience.
Through his generosity and membership in the Society of 1842, Sutton has ensured that his legacy of integrity and concern for all students will continue to positively impact future generations of Maroons.
"Why do I do it?" he asks. "Because I want to. I like the College and the students who are here. I think so many families would like to come to the College, and this is a way of providing access."
