Senior Class Campaign
Dates & Goals
Our Senior Class Gift Campaign starts on July 1and goes until June 30.
Our Class Goal is: To fund an endowed scholarship (and to beat last year's gift effort)!
Lets raise:$4,000
And let's reach 70% class participation (if we reach this goal we will have made Roanoke College History)! Plus we will have a stone paver placed in the Alumni House patio!
About the Campaign
The Senior Class Campaign is all about the class giving back. As we transition from "students" to "alumni" we trust that Roanoke has given us all the tools we will need for a meaningful, productive life. Now our alma mater needs us to give in return.
Every year, senior classes, give a gift to Roanoke College before graduating. In the past, classes have supported the Roanoke Fund which provides resources for the College's most critical needs. All this changed in 2007, when the Class of 2008 and 2009 decided to raise money to endow a scholarship...the Senior Class Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship serves to benefit current student (more specifically a rising senior!) with financial need, in good academic standing and someone who demonstrates being a "Maroon". It takes $25,000 to endow a scholarship...currently there is a little over $17,000 in the fund. The goal is to continue to support this effort and raise money for the Senior Class Endowed Scholarship.
Your Class, Your College
The Senior Class Campaign helps to unite the members of the graduating class. Participation is vital. A long-standing tradition at Roanoke is that each class will work together to raise more money and have a higher number of gifts than the previous class-a challenge that requires commitment, leadership, and a sense of pride in the College. Each Class that reaches at least 60% class giving is recognized with an engraved paver placed in the Henry H. Fowler '29 Alumni House patio.
The Senior Class Scholarship Criteria:
- First $1,000 given each year (until endowed) will be awarded to a rising senior with financial need.
- Funds received over $1,000 will go to the Senior Class Endowed Scholarship fund.
- Scholarship will be awarded to a rising senior with (financial) need.
- If the fund does not reach $25,000 by 2012 the funds will be transferred to unrestricted endowed scholarships.
- Scholarship will be awarded according to the Roanoke College Endowment Fund Investment Policy, through the Financial Aid Office.
- Application (you must apply for the scholarship).
- Academic standing (you must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA to qualify).
- Involvement (on application you must provide three organizations/community service/activities or a mixture, that you are involved in. The applicant must also request signatures from the faculty or staff advisor for certification & provide their contact information). This was mentioned b/c the scholarship is meant to be awarded to a student with not only financial need and in good academic standing but also to a student who is involved in the RC community.
- Probation (you are not eligible to receive the scholarship if you are on probation).
- An Endowed Scholarship will pay out at 5% every year enabling a rising senior with a scholarship award forever!
Still need a reason to make your senior gift? How about honoring a relative, professor, or a friend that made a difference in your Roanoke experience? You can name your gift in their honor or in their memory. Every senior gift and every honoree will be listed in the official commencement program. This is a great way to publicly thank someone who has made a difference in your life.
