Considerable attention has been paid in the media to the potential impact of the H1N1 virus on college campuses. Thus far, we have been fortunate in experiencing only a small number of cases.

Dr. Leslie Murrill, associate professor of education at Roanoke College, was awarded the 2009 Virginia Association of Colleges of Education's Instructional Leadership Award at the annual Association of Teacher Educators in Virginia Annual Conference.

Small fire in Chesapeake Hall contained
The sprinklers in the building deployed and the fire was quickly extinguished by the sprinklers. Students were evacuated from the building and the Salem Fire Department was on the scene three minutes after getting the report.

Award-Winning Poets from Roanoke College Talk Art at Taubman
Poets Melanie Almeder, Cynthia Atkins and Mary Crockett Hill will share "Language For the Sake of Art" on Friday, September 11, at noon at the Taubman Museum of Art in downtown Roanoke. The writers, who are colleagues in the English Department, share a common interest in ekphrasis-or poetry about art-and will be reading from poems inspired by works of art.

Roanoke History Professor Receives Research Fellowship to Cambridge
Jacob Lauinger, assistant professor of history, has been named the first recipient of the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Research Fellowship, a newly endowed three-year award given in partnership by the University of Chicago and the University of Cambridge.
