Roanoke College to Host Lecture on Negative Presidential Campaigning
SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College will host a lecture by author Joseph Cummins titled "Anything For A Vote: Mudslinging, Character Assassination and Other Presidential Election Strategies" in Wortmann Ballroom on Monday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, and tickets are not required.
Cummins is the author of numerous works on history, including his latest, "Anything for A Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential Campaigns," which reveals how smear tactics are as much a part of our democratic process as our flag and constitution. His lecture will give a fascinating, funny and shocking tour through American presidential politics. Tailored to reflect events currently happening in the 2008 campaigns, Cummins will provide insight into why the candidates act the way they do and give historical perspective to the backstabbing and infighting. Cummins' appearance at Roanoke College is sponsored by the Colket Center.
