What is Classic about Roanoke College?
Roanoke College is classic because it holds onto the Liberal Arts style of academics and retains the values that make the college what it is today. It uses the curriculum to teach the classic and traditional ideas that project our thoughts and ideas into the future.

Why did you choose Roanoke College?
I chose Roanoke College because I wanted to go to a school I would like whether or not I played a sport. I love the area with the small town of Salem, the small city of Roanoke, and the awesome campus of Roanoke College. There is plenty of room for me to enjoy the outdoors and, at the same time, still have the opportunity to play a sport.

What is your favorite aspect of college life at Roanoke? Why?
I like how i can go from a classroom, to a lab, to practice, to the mountains, and out to a nice dinner downtown all in one day. The opportunities the school presents allows me to diversify my interests and not put any aside.

What was the most important thing you learned from a firsthand experience at Roanoke? (Ex. study abroad, internship, lab, research, leadership position, May Term, etc.)
May Term in the Czech Republic reminded me of the importance of traveling and learning about other perspectives. This in turn gave me a better understanding of my own way of life and views of the world. Also, as a science major, the lab work is excellent because the labs are set up to depict processes I will use in the real world.

What are some of your favorite things to do in the area? Favorite places?
I enjoy the mountains and the outdoor opportunities they provide. Main Street Salem is also a great place to see everybody outside of school in a social setting.

How did you choose your major?
I chose my major because it is a subject I enjoy studying and I think it can lead me financially to a place I want to be.

How have you benefitted from a close relationship with a professor, staff member or friend?
The more classes I have with a certain professor, the closer we become. Professors always make themselves available outside of class and they do not regulate our conversations to class-only material. The basketball coaching staff also looks out for me and I have become close with them as we work together every day to improve our character and our basketball team.

What have you done that has been the most fun at Roanoke?
I have had the most fun playing in basketball games and hanging out with my teammates who have become very close throughout the years. I also enjoy going to other sporting events and having access to lab materials outside of class.

What is your advice for future freshmen entering Roanoke College?
My advice to future freshmen is to take as wide a variety of classes as possible so they can find a major. In addition, in order to become socially connected, get involved in something whether it be a sport, club, or fraternity. It is also important to remember to use the professors as a resources for class work and advice.

What is your favorite thing about campus?
My favorite thing about campus is the tree planting initiative, which gives our college some immense trees that have their own unique history or lineage. The new Kerr stadium is also a great place to watch a game in the spring and fall.
