Where to Live
Campus living is a big part of the classic college experience. It always will be. So, the majority of students at Roanoke College live in the dorms.
Dorms are divided by freshmen and upper classmen. Stately fraternity and sorority houses are also located on campus where they house affiliates and friends of the organizations. With the exception of two all female dorms, the rest are co-ed by alternating floor.
There are a total of 23 dorms on campus, 5 of which contain Greek housing.
Living on campus offers many benefits, including:
- The opportunity to live in single rooms for upperclassmen (priority given to students who have earned the most academic units)
- Guaranteed housing for 4 years
- Digital cable in all rooms
- Air conditioning in every dorm
- Free laundry facilities in every dorm that are pre-paid from student fees
- Lounge space and study rooms
- Kitchens on every floor in new dorms (Chesapeake, Caldwell, Allegheny, Ritter, Elizabeth and Tabor halls)
- Close proximity to academic buildings
- Resident Advisors (RAs) who receive community-building training
- Lower student to RA ratio than at many other schools (18:1)
- 24-hour security
- Housekeeping services for common areas
- Network connection for each student
- Wireless access in all common areas of residence halls (to be completed January 09)
