Your First Year
The first year of college is full of new experiences. We've developed programs to help you understand what will be expected of you as a student and explore your options outside the classroom.
Move In Day Tips
Move in day will be a little crazy no matter what. But we've put together a few tips to help you get through it as smoothly as possible.
Who Will Be Your Roommate?
This is a popular question, especially since this is probably the first time you'll be sharing a room with anyone. Your roommate will be selected based on a questionnaire you fill out in regard to your interests and lifestyles, and the automated matching process we use.

Things to Bring to College
Everybody knows you need to bring clothes, towels and sheets with you to college, but how about things like a first aid kit or cups and plates? We've put together a complete list of everything you'll need to bring with you.
Summer Reading Project
Your first assignment at Roanoke College will actually be due before your first day of class. Each year, we assign a book for incoming freshmen to read before orientation. After you finish the book, you'll be expected to write a 2-3 page paper, build a website or create an art project that related to the story. Those projects are then presented to other students at orientation. Learn more.
R House Habitat for Humanity Project
R House is a project that Roanoke College has made a part of orientation. In conjunction with the Roanoke Valley Habitat chapter, our incoming freshman classes build a house on campus each summer that is then turned over to a deserving family and moved to a permanent location. R House is an excellent way for students to begin building connections to the community and with each other. For more information, visit the Center for Community Service Web site.
Co-Curricular Learning and Service
The purpose of the Co-Curricular Learning and Service (CCLS) program is to help new students connect to the learning opportunities available at the College.Academic advisors play a key role in this process. They serve as the primary instructors in the CCLS mini-courses, which involve small group sessions with other students and individual sessions with your advisor.
How to Get Involved
Whether you're interested in finding a social, service, religious, athletic or multicultural outlet, Roanoke College makes it easy for you to get involved.
