What is classic about Roanoke College?
That we are called the Maroons simply because a long time ago they ordered baseball uniforms and the only colors they had were gray and maroon.

Why did you choose Roanoke College?
I chose Roanoke College because of the attractive campus and the fact that I am an actual person in the classroom and not a number. I really like the reality that I can know my professor personally in case I need any additional help on projects or homework.

What is your favorite aspect of college life at Roanoke? Why?
My favorite aspect of college life is the wealth opportunities available at Roanoke College. I am constantly getting invitations to meetings, lectures, or social functions that could really help me down the line in my life. Just knowing people at Roanoke College is one of the major advantages one can have.

What was the most important thing you learned from a firsthand experience at Roanoke? (Ex. study abroad, internship, lab, research, leadership position, May Term, etc.)
I have learned many things from learning firsthand at Roanoke College. I have been a Resident Advisor, a Greek Resident Manager, and game room staff at Roanoke College. I have also been on the executive board of Inter Fraternity Council, as well as my fraternity. I have learned to work well with other organizations, communicate effectively and clearly and to help out individuals to the best of my ability or point them into the direction of someone else who can help them out additionally. I have also participated in Roanoke College’s may term. I attended the business may term to Morelia, Mexico and Manzanillo, Mexico to study the economics of the economy in the cities. The best way to learn or understand something is to actually go there and experience it for yourself.

What are some of your favorite things to do in the area? Favorite places?
Some of my favorite things to do in the area are to go to Valley View Mall, the Valley View Grande movie theatre, go hiking on the Appalachian trail, or to hang out on campus. During the winter, I try to go to local ski resorts and snowboard and during the summer I try to make it to the lake as much as possible.

How did you choose your major?
I chose my major based on what I was most interested in. I really want to have a business of my own one day and I wanted to learn how all of it worked not just one part of it.

How have you benefitted from a close relationship with a professor, staff member or friend?
I have benefitted greatly from having close relationships on campus. It’s a really good feeling being able to call a professor in their office and when they hear your voice, they actually know who you are. And, they are willing to work something out to meet with you and help you.

What have you done that has been the most fun at Roanoke?
Probably the two most fun experiences I have had at Roanoke College are freshman move-in day and Boys Bids Day. Freshman move in day is not most people’s idea of fun, but you get to see a lot of your friends you have not seen since may on that day and get to help the incoming freshman and their parents.

What is your advice for future freshmen entering Roanoke College?
Enjoy it. It goes by much faster than you could think. Work hard but also make sure you find time for yourself, do not waste your time at Roanoke College by working too hard or partying too much.

What is your favorite thing about campus?
My favorite aspect of campus is if it is sunny on Friday you know people are going to be on the back quad doing some type of activity.
