SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College announces an art exhibit to be held from October 26 to November 16 in Olin and Smoyer galleries. The display will feature paintings by Steve Keene, who will be giving a lecture on Friday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m. in Olin Gallery with an opening reception to follow. Both galleries are open daily from 1-4 p.m. For more information, please call the Olin Gallery at (540) 375-2332.

Steve Keene, a popular prolific painter from Brooklyn, N.Y., will be Roanoke's artist in residence from October 22 to November 10 and will work on site. Keene's unique philosophy is that he wants his paintings "to be like buying a CD: it's cheap, it's art and it changes your life, but the object has no status." He will be painting in a makeshift studio set up in Olin Gallery where the public can observe as he works. Paintings also will be available for purchase.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
