SALEM, Va. - Brenda Porter Poggendorf joined Roanoke College this fall as vice president for enrollment and dean of admissions & financial aid. Poggendorf is a Roanoke College graduate and a former Director of Admissions at Roanoke. Poggendorf replaces Michael Creed Maxey who served as the Vice President for College Relations and Admissions until this summer when he became Roanoke's 11th president.

Poggendorf joined Roanoke College as an admissions counselor in 1982. She left Roanoke in 1988 to join Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin as Executive Assistant to the President. She was vice president for enrollment at Carthage College from 1990 until recently. She served there over the past two decades. Among the many highlights of her work is the accomplishment of taking application totals in her first year of 750 to over 4,600 applications currently.

She was a member of the board of directors of Saint Catherine's High School (Wisconsin) and a board member for the Racine Youth Leadership Committee. She also is a former trustee for St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Poggendorf holds a bachelors degree in psychology from Roanoke College. She earned the master of arts in liberal studies from Hollins University. She also earned an MBA from Loyola University-Chicago and is a Ph.D. candidate there now in Education, Leadership and Policy Studies in Higher Education.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
