McAfee Encourages Grads to Question Authority John D. McAfee, the founder of McAfee, Inc. which developed the world's first computer virus scanner, was the keynote speaker at Roanoke College's commencement ceremony where a record 421 graduates received degrees. McAfee advised the graduates to question authority in ways that are constructive in their own lives. McAfee was given an honorary doctor of science degree at the ceremony. |

 | Bader Receives Distinguished Fellowship Roanoke College student Geoffrey Bader has been selected to receive a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the American Society of Plant Biologists. This award includes a stipend of $3,000 and will allow him to dedicate full-time effort to a research project for a ten-week period this summer.

Dean accepts position at John Carroll Dr. John Day, vice president and dean of Roanoke College, is leaving Roanoke College after six years as its chief academic officer. Day has accepted the position of academic vice president at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. |

 | Swain's White House Appointment President George W. Bush has nominated Dr. Carol M. Swain '83 to the National Council on the Humanities, the White House announced. The appointment, subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate later this month, is for a six-year term. Swain is a member of the Roanoke College Board of Trustees, a professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and a native of the Roanoke region.
