Dining in the Commons

Roanoke College Dining Service is self-operated. Our primary facility is the Sutton Commons where meals are served buffet style with unlimited portions, seven days a week. Dining is available continuously each day. Weekly menus change regularly to offer a variety of culinary concepts. Students on the meal plan may opt to have weekday meals either in the Commons or in the Cavern. You must show your validated ID card or pay the door charge for that meal. Click here for the Dining Menu.

Breakfast choices include specialties such as fresh baked muffins, bagels delivered daily, fruit smoothies, omelet station, fresh cut fruit, make you own waffle station and much more. Lunch options may include specialty sandwiches, chef-made salads, "bakeshop live", vendor samplings, grilled chicken, burgers and hot dogs. Dinner selections are designed to meet a variety of tastes such as vegetarian entrees, international flavors and fresh made pizzas. Our famous 25 item salad bar, gourmet pasta table, and fresh deli selections are available continuously everyday as well as premium ice cream and low fat yogurt. Our bakery provides a daily array of fresh cookies, cakes, pies, and brownies of exceptional quality.

Roanoke College Dining Services makes a concerted effort to meet the needs of students with specific dietary needs. Vegetarian options are carefully considered at all meals and we encourage any suggestions to improve your dining experience.

Faculty, staff and their families are welcomed and encouraged to dine on campus. The school year kicks off with five FOTQ events (Fridays On The Quad). FOTQ is a Roanoke College tradition of fun foods, entertainment, and camaraderie. It is a time for the students, faculty, staff, and their families to get together in the spirit of the college community in a "cook out" type atmosphere.

Every few weeks, take advantage of our special theme meals in the Commons including Holiday Observances, Oktoberfest, Valentine's Day, A Taste of the Caribbean, and Mardi Gras, just to name a few. Theme meal events may include live music, decorations, and unique food offerings.

If you are expecting guests, don't worry about where to eat. With each meal plan you are entitled to two guest meals per semester. Sick trays will be provided for those students on the meal plan who are too ill to come to the dining hall.

You will find a member of the Dining Services management team present at every meal. All of the managers are eager and willing to answer your questions, accommodate your requests, and hear your suggestions. As students and customers at Roanoke College you do have an input in how the dining program operates. Please don't hesitate to call, e-mail, or stop by the managers' office in the Colket Center, with your questions, comments, or concerns.
