SALEM, Va. - Two local bands, Beggars' Circus and No Strings Attached, will perform in Roanoke College's Olin Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 18. All tickets are $10. For tickets and more information, please call the Olin Hall Box Office at (540) 375-2333.

Beggars' Circus formed in 1998 and, since then, has released two CDs and performed in many festivals throughout Virginia and North Carolina. The three musicians-Tim Summers, Mary-Beth Coffey and Michelle Lawrence-Walker-united because of their love for Celtic music, which is exactly what Beggars' Circus plays today. They tend to play tragic songs, but also include happier pieces to provide a concert filled with variety and musical complexity. Their high-energy performances are known to include "exciting instrument-switching acrobatics."

No Strings Attached is an award-winning quartet formed in Blacksburg, Va. in 1978. Their music has been described as "eclectic jazz on acoustic instruments and world beat." They are a traditional string band that constantly stretches the boundaries of that genre of music. Their concerts are always exciting, and the four performers have a stage presence comparable to Cirque du Soleil. No Strings Attached has shown its staying power by opening for a wide variety of musical acts such as The Supremes and the Dixie Chicks. They also have toured in the United States and Europe.

This concert is a part of Roanoke College's Performing Arts Series. Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society.
