SALEM, Va.-Roanoke College will host a play by Pin Points Theatre in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Called “The Meeting,” the play suggests what might have happened had King and Malcolm X met before their assassinations just three years apart. “The Meeting” will be presented Sunday, January 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the Wortmann Ballroom, Colket Center. There is no charge, and tickets are not required.

“The Meeting,” a powerful drama about the lives, philosophies and times of these two leaders, is an emotional, clever and intense confrontation between Malcolm X, his hostile bodyguard and King. It gives factual, but surprising information about the two men, their commitment to human rights and the times.

Written by Jeff Stetson, “The Meeting” has received a Louis B. Mayer Award, eight NAACP Theatre Awards and six New York AUDELCO nominations. It has been produced throughout the United States and Europe. A unique tribute to Martin Luther King, “The Meeting” is especially timely as 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of King's passing.

This event is sponsored by Roanoke College's Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
