SALEM, Va. - To start off Roanoke College's annual Honors conference on "Making a Difference," independent filmmaker Jen Marlow will host a screening of the documentary "Darfur Diaries: Message from Home" on Monday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Colket Center's Wortmann Ballroom.

The independent film follows the journey of three activists who snuck across the Sudanese border into rebel-held territory in October 2004 to document the atrocities in Darfur. They returned with some of the first footage exposing the massive war crimes being perpetrated by the Sudanese government.

After the screening, Marlow will comment on the current plight in the Darfur region and about her experiences making the film. This event is sponsored by the Roanoke College Honors Program and the Office of Community Programs.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
