SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College will host a lecture by philosopher Manuel DeLanda titled "City Life: The Economic, Biological and Linguistic Dynamics of Cities" on Thursday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wortmann Ballroom.

DeLanda, who teaches at Columbia University's School of Architecture and the University of Pennsylvania, has written on a variety of topics such as economics, self-organizing matter, warfare and artificial life and intelligence. He is the author of numerous works, including "War in the Age of Intelligent Machines," "A Thousand Years of Nonlinear History" and "Intensive Science and Virtual Philosophy." The event is sponsored by the D.L. Jordan Endowment for the Humanities.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
