Roanoke College Hosts Lecture on the Civil War “Battle of Hampton Roads”

SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College will host a lecture by Dr. John V. Quarstein on the “Power of Iron Over Wood,” on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wortmann Ballroom. Quarstein, an award-winning author of nine books on the civil war and current director of the Virginia War Museum Foundation, will speak about the historic moment when the world's first ironclad warship, the CSS Virginia, went into battle at Hampton Roads in 1862. He will sign copies of his book after the lecture. Quarstein is the third speaker in the College's Roy H. Ritter Lecture Series. Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society.
