SALEM, Va. - Sandra Harding, a philosopher of science and a professor of education and women's studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, will offer a lecture at Roanoke College titled "Gender and Science: New Issues." Her talk will take place on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Colket Center's Pickle Lounge and is sponsored by the College's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Harding was director of UCLA's Center for the Study of Women. She has been described as a scholar of feminist theory, research methodology and the philosophy of science whose current focus is on the objectivity of scientific inquiry. Harding taught at the University of Delaware from 1976 to 1996 prior to joining the UCLA faculty. She co-edited the journal "Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society" from 2000 to 2005 and is the author or editor of 15 books and special journal issues.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
