SALEM, Va. - In continuing Roanoke College's theme of "Exploration and Discovery" this year, celebrated poet, novelist and short-story writer Robert Morgan will read from his biography of Daniel Boone on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wortmann Ballroom.

Morgan will be reading from his work titled "Boone: A Biography," which was published in October 2007 and has been placed on the Washington Post's "Best Books of 2007" list. He is a prize-winning author of poetry and fiction whose subject matter often focuses on Appalachia. He has written several extremely popular novels, including "Gap Creek," which was an Oprah Book Club selection and a New York Times best-seller.

Morgan has received Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. Recently he received an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 276 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the "best in the Southeast." Roanoke's 2,000 students represent 40 states across the U.S. and 26 foreign countries.
