SALEM, Va. - On Saturday, March 29 at 11:30 a.m., Roanoke College will officially dedicate its new Goode-Pasfield Center for Learning & Teaching in the Fintel Library. The Goode-Pasfield Center is made possible through a generous gift from David R. and Susan Goode of Norfolk, Virginia. The Center serves as a thriving campus resource that offers writing support, tutoring and peer mentoring services, academic enhancement services and other much needed support for students. The Center also will serve as a well-equipped resource to enhance faculty members' teaching and pedagogical skills.

The Goodes established this gift in memory of David Goode's father, Otto Goode, a member of Roanoke College's class of 1931. Otto Goode grew up in a small coal-mining town in Wyoming County, West Virginia, and never imagined that he would have the opportunity to attend college. He was a well-known Vinton business and civic leader who founded the Vinton Dogwood Festival. The gift also honors David's sister, Martha Elizabeth Goode Pasfield, and her husband, Robert Pasfield, both of whom graduated from Roanoke College in 1967.

"Because Roanoke College has influenced the lives of all our family, it is very fitting that a center focused on learning and teaching be established to honor Bob, Martha and my father," David Goode said last year when the gift was announced.

David R. Goode retired last year as Chairman, President and CEO of Norfolk Southern Corporation. He has held directorships at Caterpillar Inc., Delta Air Lines, Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Norfolk Southern Railway and Texas Instruments Incorporated. Mr. Goode is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School.

Roanoke College, the country's second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college.
