University of East Anglia: Study Abroad in England

University of East Anglia (UEA) is one of the leading universities in England, ranked near the top in a variety of academic disciplines.  UEA has a bilateral exchange with Roanoke--students enroll there as full time international students and take classes with UK and other students. UEA courses in English, history, drama and film are taken in the School of English and American Studies.  Departments open to Roanoke College students include biology, psychology, sociology and many others. Students may select semester or academic year options through this program. UEA has a modern campus in Norwich, a historic city located two hours from London. The Sainsbury art collection is a world-renowned museum of modern art on the campus.

Selecting the UEA exchange program allows you to experience the charm of the English countryside while having easy access to all that London has to offer,study and live with British students and earn college credit while you are studying abroad. 

Cost

Since UEA is an exchange program, all financial aid that Roanoke College students receive is portable during their study abroad. The cost of tuition and room and board is paid directly to Roanoke College. 

Application Deadlines and Procedures

Contact Dr. Jon Crawford in the Office of International Education for specific dates. 

Early November - Request recommendations/letters of reference from two faculty members. These need to be turned in by the faculty members by early December at the Office of International Education.

Early December - At this time, the following are due:

  • Essay explaining the student's goals in participating in the UEA program (about a page and a half)
  • UEA Student Exchange Application

Usually by March:

  • UEA Visiting Student Application Form
  • UEA Student Enrollment Form with selected courses
  • UEA Housing Contract

Each student also needs to turn the following in to the Office of International Education:

  • Evidence of your health coverage. Also, students who are planning to study at UEA for more than six months are eligible for health coverage through the university.
  • A complete copy of your latest college transcript. There are special forms required to carry out this procedure through the registrar.
